OEB-25, Europe’s Leading Conference on Digital Learning to Examine What It Means to Be Human in the Age of AI

As artificial intelligence moves from the periphery to the centre of our lives, questions once confined to philosophy are now urgent policy and learning challenges. At this year’s OEB Global conference in Berlin, over 2,000 international participants from education, business, and government will confront a pressing question: how do we stay human in a world designed by machines?

Taking place from 3–5 December 2025, the 31st edition of OEB will explore the theme “Humanity in the Intelligent Age: Empathy, Responsibility, and the Duty of Care.”

Far from focusing solely on technological developments, OEB 2025 is set to examine the broader societal impact of AI, automation, and digital transformation – and the role of learning in ensuring that progress is shaped by human values rather than technological momentum.

“The Intelligent Age is not just about what technology can do, but about how we choose to use it,” said Rebecca Stromeyer, OEB Conference Chair. “It’s about recognising that our systems, tools, and platforms reflect the choices and priorities of their creators. That means we must be intentional – and ethical – in how we design, teach, and lead.”

At a time when algorithms influence what we see, how we work, and even how we understand truth, OEB will ask how learning can equip people not just with skills, but with the critical thinking and emotional intelligence needed to navigate a fast-changing world. The theme touches on timely concerns: the spread of disinformation, the fragility of trust, and the accelerating pace of workplace disruption.

“We’re not using the term ‘duty of care’ in its narrow legal sense,” Stromeyer explained. “We’re framing it as a collective, societal responsibility – a call to ensure that innovation does not come at the cost of empathy, privacy, or equity. It’s about designing a future where people remain at the centre.”

OEB 2025 will explore how AI is reshaping our definitions of intelligence, from data-driven learning platforms to immersive technologies that blur the lines between digital and physical experience. The programme will span themes such as the ethics of AI in education, skills for the green and digital transitions, organisational transformation, personalised learning, and the future role of educators in a shifting landscape.

Sessions will examine how learning can support psychological resilience and adaptability, prepare individuals for new forms of employment, and ensure that transitions – whether digital, economic or ecological – are inclusive and human-centred. Cross-cutting topics include AI literacy, interdisciplinary thinking, and the increasingly urgent task of building systems that reflect shared values rather than inherited bias.

With its signature mix of hands-on workshops, debates, keynotes, and interactive formats, the conference will offer a space not only to learn about change, but to question it.

“Learning has never mattered more,” Stromeyer said. “It’s our best defence against disinformation, and our best hope for ensuring that the future is shaped not just by efficiency, but by wisdom, empathy, and care.”

OEB 2025 will take place at the InterContinental Hotel in Berlin. The event will run alongside a major international exhibition showcasing the latest EdTech and learning innovations.
